The Ayeyarwadi River (formerly Irrawaddy river) is a long north to south river through much of Miramar that is a very important commercial thoroughfare. The river is the Road to Mandalay in the Kipling poem.

Come you back to Mandalay,
Where the old Flotilla lay:
Can't you 'ear their paddles chunkin' from Rangoon to Mandalay?
On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!

We took an afternoon trip on the Ayeyarwady River to Tune Thiri Island where there was a small village and some small farms abd caught the sunset at the end of the day.

Nice to see a public library on the way to visit another busy market in or near Bagan - lots of food, but also a hardware store among other shops.
