While in Melbourne we visited Cook's Cottage. It was built in the village of Great Ayton in Yorkshire, England by the parents of Captain Cook in 1755. It isn't know whether he lived there, but it is certain that he visited it. In 1943 it was moved, brick-by-brick, to Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne and is now considered to be the oldest building in Australia. It was interesting to walk thhrough and see the various artifacts of how people lived in those days. And what an incredible job of reconstruction.

James Cook had a long career of exploration, mapping and writing journals about trips to Newfoundland, Australia, and New Zealand among other places. The "modern" day Columbus?
