Palma, Mallorca - Thurs 12 Oct: Cloudy - rain, superhard in afternoon. Holiday - no car rental places open - Columbus Day and some Saint ∗. Took the narrow gauge railroad to Soller. Quite crowded because of holiday. Met a woman who had been in Mallorca for 1 1/2 years - Canadian.
Long tunnel - train runs right through back yards - and passes fantastic terracing.
On little tram (3 car) down to port - raining, wet - many tourist busses. Walked about a bit and then took taxi to train to get back to Palma. Went to airport to try to rent car, but couldn't because they were all gone.
Café and cake during heavy rain. Paella for dinner at Yate Rizz. Place quite busy at 9:30. At 9 we were the only ones there.
∗ One would think that past experience would help avoid mistakes. At Aurillac in 1971 on the way to Conques, we couldn't rent a car because it was Armistice Day.
