Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

Tonight on Bravo, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy airs. The concept of this show isn't really very appealing to me and it is hard to imagine a whole hour for an episode (there are two tonight). But I'm taping them (conflicts with the All Star game which I am going to watch since for the first time in many years it isn't on the second tuesday when I go English Country Dancing). How incredible to have a show with Queer in its title on regular cable TV that is about style and culture....

Here is its description:

Five gay men, out to make over the world — one straight guy at time

They are the Fab Five: an elite team of gay men who have dedicated their lives to extolling the simple virtues of style, taste and class. Each week their mission is to transform a style-deficient and culture-deprived straight man from drab to fab in each of their respective categories: fashion, food and wine, interior design, grooming and culture.

On the T today, I read the free paper METRO that appears free on every seat. There was a review of "QEftSG". The headline; hate the title, love the show. Apparently it is a lot more respectful than some shows of its ilk. The author wondered why the sexual orientation of anyone in the show was really an issue; what you really need is just a handful of guys with good taste and good comic timing (which, apparently, these guys have), and someone who will respect their decisions.

The review made me want to watch it.
