Today [livejournal.com profile] rsc and I returned from our Tanzania and a bit of Kenya Safari. Somewhat jetlagged (8 hrs to London from Nairobi, 5 hours layover, and 8 hours to Boston with 7 hours time difference) so we're struggling to keep awake so as to go to bed at the normal time.

It was a great trip. The other travelers were a congenial bunch, the driver/guides were knowledgeable and affable. Among other things we saw a number of lions, a leopard, some cheetahs, several kinds of gazelles, huge herds of zebra and wildebeest, elephants, giraffes, monkeys, baboons, rhinos, hippos, hyenas, jackals, ostrich, pelicans, huge fleets of flamingos, storks, countless numbers of small birds of many types, interesting plants, trees, and bugs - huge termite mounds. (There were a few tse-tse flies but they are not the cause of my being sleepy, we saw fewer mosquitos than are in our garden (but ours don't carry malaria) we are still we are taking anti-malaria precautions. and had lots of DEET and some permethrin treated clothes.

I'm working on pictures so there will be posts with some pics soon if I can get my act together to select a few from the ~1400 I have.

Oh we missed you!! I love that you got to see all those animals. Our baseball announcers reported today that Boston was Africa hot. Was that the gift you brought home?

It was never this hot, and certainly never this humid, anywhere on our trip. At Ngorongoro (can you believe that the LJ spell-checker thinks this name is a mistake?), where the lodge we stayed in was at about 7500 feet, it was downright chilly at night.
